Mission Animation Team studies ``Family as the nucleus of evangelization``

. CHENNAI: The Annual Seminar for the Provincial Delegates for Mission Animation (PDMA) of South Asia commenced at the Salesian Provincial House, Chennai on 9 November. There was a remarkable difference this year as participation of most of the branches of the Salesian Family in this region made the seminar with the theme ``Family as the nucleus of evangelization`` truly a ``Family`` undertaking.
The 46 participants of the event were the SDB PDMAs and other delegates from 10 Salesian provinces, Councilors of Evangelization from all the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC) and Sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI) provinces of India and their General Councilors, delegates from the Salesian Sisters (FMA), the Disciples and the Volunteers of Don Bosco (VDB). The enthusiastic participants from all over the region had a day of reflection and prayer at the outset. The experience of missionaries living together and sharing experiences made it a wonderful experience. The keynote address was delivered by the popular writer and media person Fr.(Dr.) Francis Karackatt SDB. Focusing on the evangelization through the family, Fr. Francis spoke very powerfully on the need for the positive upbringing of the children by cultivating positive attitudes in them. The environment they grow up in makes us look at the need for developing the parenting skills of Catholic parents. Catechesis for all becomes the deciding factor for the creation of beautiful families, he said. The focus on the family apostolate required the documents of the Church to be understood in the right spirit, and therefore Fr. Jerome Vallabaraj SDB, Professor of Theology, examined very critically the main points raised by the recent extraordinary synod of Bishops on family. The seminar will have two more days of reflection. One of them will be animated by Br. Edmund Antao and his team of the the Crusaders for Christ with Mary, a lay missionary group from Goa who have dedicated their lives to proclamation of the Word all over India. The last day will be set aside for reflection and formulating lines of action for the evangelization work of the Salesian Family of South Asia. A Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Velankanni will conclude the three day seminar. The seminar is coordinated by the South Asia Regional Delegate Mission Animation Fr. T.C. George SDB, with the help of Fr.Pathiaraj, the PDMA of Chennai province, and the missionary animation team.
